Check the laboratory name, report number, shape, measurements, carat weight, color, clarity and cut grade. The number can be verified on the laboratory’s official website.
The report should also be compared with the stone: measurements must match, and any laser inscription should be visible with suitable equipment. GIA, IGI and HRD reports have different formats, but all should be considered alongside the stone’s actual appearance.
A report describes parameters, but it does not tell the whole story about light performance, proportions or how a diamond will look in a particular setting. An independent consultation and comparison of equivalent options can therefore be valuable.
